Every January, Dwelling Place sets aside a few weeks to revisit the mission and vision of our church.Over these weeks, we seek to raise and answer core, guiding questions such as: Who are we? Why do we do what we do? And what is our vision for the future? If we are going to live out our vision well, it will take intention. During the month of January, we invite you to set aside a few weeks to thoughtfully engage with our vision and what it means for you. Below we have provided a series of exercises and discussions for you to work through. The purpose of these exercises is to facilitate thoughtful dialogue, create space for evaluation, and invite greater growth in your life in the year ahead. Be sure to engage each part below.

PART 1: DWELLING PLACE BIBLE READING PLAN

When it comes to daily (or not-so-daily) Bible reading, January 1 can be a welcome arrival. A new year signals a new start. You are motivated to freshly commit to what you know is of indispensable importance: the Word of God.

Every morning we awaken to a fresh deluge of information. We have now reached the point where, We’ve heard it said, an average weekday edition of the New York Times contains more information than Jonathon Edwards encountered in his entire lifetime. I don’t know if that is true, but it sure makes us think. It is imperative, then, to set a specific time each day when you will get alone with God. Even if it’s a modest window, guard it with your life. Explain your goal to those closest with you, and invite their help. If your basic game plan is to read your Bible whenever, chances are you’ll read it never.

We have provided for you a 5-day Bible reading plan that gives you two extra days to catch up each week. Be sure to use #dpcbiblereading to interact with others in our community that are following the plan. Also, we release a new podcast specific to our Bible reading plan on the first of every month. Be sure to subscribe to our church podcast!

PART 2: DWELLING PLACE ANNUAL DISCIPLESHIP PLAN

The annual discipleship plan is an opportunity to assess your personal practices and rhythms and make a specific plan for individual growth in the year ahead. Take time to work through the plan on your own, listing tangible (and reasonable) steps for growth in each area. Then meet with another believer to discuss and share for accountability.

PART 3: GENEROSITY REFLECTION

Talking about money can be difficult and awkward. The purpose of this reflection is not to coerce or legislate anyone’s giving; instead, we want to create awareness about how we are spending our money and invite one another (and the Holy Spirit) into our journey of generosity. Take a night to work through the exercise and discussion questions provided, sharing any findings you may have made and any steps of generosity you feel inclined to take. Before coming together, consider printing the activity out or providing paper so that your connect group can participate.
